in the land of the big red bus

We spent the last couple of weekends in London, bookending our trip to Germany so that Daniel could teach at a nuclear physics summer school. There are a lot of monuments and otherwise-famous things in London; like can't-swing-a-dead-cat-without-hitting-one a lot.

The photos are mostly self-explanatory, except for the rows of pills. This was a display at the British Museum of 14,000 pills--the rough number that a Briton consumes in a lifetime. The artist went through the medical histories of one man and one woman, counted up all the pills prescribed, and then turned them into this exhibit. Looking at years upon years of pills for cancer and high blood pressure and diabetes and birth control was pretty surreal. What I'm wondering though: How much would it have cost to buy all the pills for the exhibit in the U.S. Talk about scary.
