The Lake District

We visited "The Lake District" over a long weekend, which was very, very nice. Lots of green, lots of hills, lots of sheep (on which more later). Also ate some killer 200-year-old (recipe) Grasmere Gingerbread. The full photo album is available here.

On Sunday, we left the lakes in the early afternoon and drove further north (almost to the Scottish border) to see Hadrian's Wall and one of its forts, the most interesting feature of which was the "multi-seated latrine." The latrine site came complete with a rendering of the latrine "in action." More than I needed to see. The guy in the photo was right into it though, a bit too eager to discuss the engineering of drainage, etc. Enough on that.

We found an IKEA on the way home (go the Swedes!) and so finally have a sheet and several other essentials that we were missing at the apartment. And all for just 25 pounds! (Do the English, I wonder, have a pound symbol over the number 4 instead of a $??)

On a non-cheap note, we also paid $100 for just 9 gallons of gasoline! So stop whining.

  1. "Stop Whining"

I will whine as long as the oil companies are making record profits. But that still is a crap load of money. Wow.
