like a brand-new baby

Jack suddenly seems like a different, much older baby in these last few weeks. He racked up the milestones in December--rolling over (front to back), first tooth, sitting, real food, and he wrapped up the month by rolling over from front to back for the first time yesterday. At the beginning of December he was still sitting in bouncy chairs, sleeping in the bassinet, stuffing fabric in his face and drinking bottles most of the time. Now he's eating three squares (and, let's face it, still a lot of bottles), sitting up on his own, sleeping in his crib, and stuffing blocks in his mouth. Just the difference between Christmas morning and New Year's Day is noticeable. On Christmas morning we had him propped up in the bebe pod to get some photos in front of the tree. Today he spent the whole evening sitting on the floor by himself, playing with his blocks. Crazy.

Some of this change is because we held off on some transitions like real food and the crib, but mostly, he's just changed. For the moment at least, he will sit and play with his blocks from mealtime until mealtime. Yesterday he even learned how to give kisses (at least to Mommy. I'm not sure anyone else has been a beneficiary yet). I'm finding it somewhat stunning that we're now communicating--at least sometimes. Up until now it's all felt like some kind of coincidental crapshoot, but now there is clear communication happening...sometimes:)
