We started getting questions in December about where we were going to spend our summer. We kept telling people that we'd canceled all of our summer plans (which were quite awesome, btw) because this summer's only trip was into parenthood. We are two weeks in now, have been home from the hospital for a week and a half, and are happy to report that it's a better trip than we'd thought!
John Robertson Phillips (Jack) arrived on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 4:11 PM. He weighed 5 pounds, 15.5 ounces and was 20 inches long. Named after Daniel's Uncle John Robertson, he has dark blonde hair, dark blue eyes, and the conventional wisdom is that he looks like my brother Ben (at least when comparing newborn pictures). He certainly has his daddy's long arms, legs, fingers, toes and butt (read: none). He is even slower to wake up than his mommy but does have her desire to sprawl out in bed and her dislike of confining spaces (like uteruses).
He has already learned how to stretch out his legs (that took a couple of days after all of those months of being cramped inside), how to smile a bit, how to suck on his fingers, and how to push the bottle of out of the way when he's finished. More ingloriously, he has also learned how to pee all over himself, spew a fountain of what we call "Jack Yak", and stick his feet in his dirty diapers. He is currently suffering from Grandma Withdrawal now that there is no one here to hold him 24 hours a day, but we expect he'll recover.
